The Brisbane culinary landscape is changing and at a quick pace. There are plenty of rewards for those that are willing to jump into the scene head first particularly with new concepts and offerings. It’s fun and exciting particularly for those that love eating out and trying new places.
I started this blog a couple of years ago, in an attempt to encourage me and my friends to keep trying new restaurants, bars, cafes, mobile food vans, bistros, wine bars, boutiques and whatever else comes our way.
The original concept behind this blog was to eat at each and every eatery within inner city brisbane mainly: Brisbane City, New Farm, Teneriffe, Fortitude Valley, West End & South Brisbane + other random visits. Eating Brisbane went on a small blogging break for 2012 but before that we had reviewed 104 out of 250 restaurants in the above suburbs.
We’re back now… with a new look blog and the old challenge! At our current count there are 476 places to eat at with 109 done and dusted. That leaves us with lots and lots of eating adventures, empty wallets and (fingers crossed) minimal stomach pains!
By the way… my name is Nadine and I would love your feedback so please do leave comments and feel free to email me with anything interesting, fun, new and Brisbane based.
My reviews are all unannounced and paid for in full with the aim of providing an account of our experience on the day, for the benefit of our readers. The focus is on the food, service and atmosphere of each of the venues.
Thank you for reading!
Heard about your website on ABC Radio this morning ! Have done a quick trawl and and looks to be a great service. Agree with comments on Harveys – one of our regular haunts. When you go back to Melbourne, please allow more than four days ! I travel regularly and have favourite places in Sydney and Melbourne (I live in Brisbane). Do you have plans to canvas people’s dining experiences – or is that to much like Trip Advisor. Good luck with your venture. Don
Thanks for your message and wishes Don… I definitely want to go back to Melbourne for a longer eating stint. My wish list just keeps growing!!
I take it the reason there is no Chinese section is due to the total void of decent Chinese Restaurants in Brisbane? If you know of anywhere decent, I am definitely all ears. I have lived and worked in Taipei, Hong Kong and Shanghai at various times in the past. So may be viewed as somewhat of a Chinese snob??? My belief that the only decent Chinese feed in Australia is found on Little Bourke Street in Melbourne. My particular regional favourites include Hu Nan food, and Si Chuan food. Cheers, Mark
Hi Mark – thank you very much for your comment.
I must admit that I am not a big fan of Chinese food, as I tend to prefer Thai or Japanese when it comes to Asian Food. Though you make a good point – I should add a couple of Chinese restaurants to the list. Do you have any suggestions, perhaps some of your better finds?
Thanks Nadine. I don’t blame you for not being a fan, particularly given the quality offered to diners in Brisbane. Unfortunately, I have not yet found anywhere to come close to the experiences I have had in China and Taiwan. David’s Chinese Restaurant on Elizabeth Street in the city is not bad. Beijing House at the George Street end of the Queen Street mall is also, not bad. I usually judge them by the quality of their simple dishes e.g. spicy eggplant and pork, tofu dishes, rice/noodle dishes. Everywhere offers the Southern Chinese deep fried and sickly sweet fare, but rarely do we get the complex braised and spiced dishes of central and east coast China. Massive opportunity lost in my opinion. Brisbane palates could take it, and would love it.
Thanks for the suggestions Mark! I will test them out.
