German Sausage Hut, City

I admit to being a sucker for this little hut on market days (Powerhouse Markets), particularly if the night before included several beverages! The mother hut on Burnett Lane has double the goodness and triple the entertainment!

The Hut fronts onto Burnett Lane, however is actually in the shopping centre that leads from Queen Street to Adelaide Street. During the day, you will find around 5-6 high tables and stools waiting for you. However, on Friday evenings the space is transformed into a slice of Bavaria.

The owner takes over the space across, decks it out with long wooden tables, benches, flags, a German looking accordian player and lots and lots of pork. Yes pork or rather pork hock and massive portions of it.

I was hankering for a cheese kransky with sauerkraut and mustard (same as on Saturday mornings), so went straight to order that. In hindsight (and peeping at the neighbour’s plates), I should have ordered the pork – sharing might be an option here. Wash it all down with a good sized glass of Erdinger or another German beer.

The only thing missing were pancakes – for some reason I thought they would fit in well!

BTW – they also have Gluvine at the moment – perfect for a cold evening!
