CIBO! meaning food in Italian – lots of good yummy food by the looks of it.
You can find a CIBO in New Farm, West End and Chermside, as well as South Australia. My local one is in Merthyr Village, New Farm a really common coffee stop for me especially if I am going to the Supermarket or to pick up a newspaper etc!
The staff are always great and most of them will quickly get to know you by name, especially the owners so it is always a pleasure to be there. You can either sit in the small area inside the cafe itself or else outside in the middle of Merthyr Village, perfect for people watching especially as they go in and out of Coles.
FOOD – I have two staple food items I generally go for – the Boscaiolla – which is flat bread containing ham and cheese, generally served toasted. Hmmm that melts the cheese really nicely, making it delicious. (side note: this is great for hangovers, not sure why, but it works better than fast food. I have had other panini varieties too and they are all great.
The other great food item is cannoli – in either custard or ricotta – small or large (generally large of course). You really get proper ricotta cannoli and these are pretty close to how my grandmother used to make them!
The coffee is good too – however I have been noticing that the staff have not been heating up the milk enough. It is often quite tepid which makes you drink it quickly. I need to ask for it to be extra hot to get it to a normal temperature making it really useless as a take away. So I don’t stop there any more if I want to take the coffee back to the office, otherwise its cold by the time I get back, which is a pity really.
Also, for some strange reason Merthyr Village seems to be a dead spot when it comes to plugging in my USB key. Luckily CIBO offer free internet, however it is not ideal if you want to use your own. I have had problems in their car park too and also at Vue just across.
Good food, nice people, convenient location – almost perfect really!
