Karma, New Farm

What a great place! I drive past this place almost every day and although I have been wanting to go I was more than pleasantly surprised.

It was a cold night so we opted to sit inside (which I normally avoid, but was glad I did this time). The main restaurant is decorated in an Indian/Nepalese theme with heavy wooden chairs and tables. However, they have an inner room which has low tables and cushions for sitting on the floor. It was cosy, though not warm, and lovely. Lighting was low and each table had a little candle.

We sat down on some of the cushions and got comfy straight away. The food menu was quite extensive covering your traditional Indian plates and also some not so common Nepalese options. I was quite hungry so went a bit overboard with ordering versus my usual traits. We did not order any drinks – beer was relatively well priced and included a few foreign options. I did not pay attention to the wine list however it was BYO for wine only (plus there is a bottle shop next door).

Poppadums are complimentary and we had some vege dumplings to start. I believe there were 5 on the plate. They were quite good, although a bit spicy (not helped by my extra serving of chilli sauce I’m sure). We then ordered another plate of poppadums for about $1.50. As a main we got a Nepalese platter for about $17. It had a double serve of rice and three small portions of curry – one was with the chicken and the other two were vegetarian.  The main was more than enough for the two of us especially with a side serve of Naan bread.

The staff were fantastic – really attentive but not overbearing. They were polite and we did not hassle one bit at any point.
